I try to make it to at least one Riverhounds game a year here at Highmark Stadium but I have to admit, it's mostly for the view. Highmark Stadium has a gorgeous view of downtown Pittsburgh and the Point across the Monongahela River and I love the open air field. It looks like you could walk across the field and across the river right into the golden triangle.
Don't get me wrong, the Riverhounds get the crowd excited during home games. The supporters section is always rocking with die-hard fans. There is even a pub where if you're lucky you can get a seat along the window and have a few beers and food and still enjoy a great view of the game. It's easy to walk around the field, too. Opposite the stands is a standing room only area if you want to get away from the crowds. Thought even when there are a lot of people there it never really seems crowded like it can at other sporting events.
My only real complaint is the stands themselves. They're kind of like bleachers, kind of not...and when everyone is on their feet or moving around it feels a bit unsteady.
Tickets can vary in price (I think depending on the opponent) but I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 for a ticket. Plus I gotta respect the Riverhounds and how closely they work with the soccer youth in our community.
