  • So, I bought a Groupon for Arcadia Tavern. I vaguely remember going to Arcadia Tavern with friends a few years ago for beers and appetizers and had a pleasant time. So I thought I would go back and try out some more food. The first time we tried going on a Saturday night. Several college games were playing, including ASU and UofA. My husband and I thought we would go watch the ASU game and try out the food at Arcadia Tavern. First the parking: My husband dropped me off to get a table while he tried to find parking and to avoid valet. Valet at a sports bar?? Really? While he was looking for parking, I attempted to get a table. I was told at the front that I could not get a table with just 2 of us on college game nights. We would have to share a table with other people. I was looking around and saw several empty tables. So then, I walked around the bar to look for 2 empty spots and had no luck. I noticed most of the TVs had the UofA game, some had other college games, and no TVs were playing ASU. Which is fine... I understand this is a UofA bar and hopefully I wouldn't get flack for wanting to change one of the TVs to ASU. But as I was walking back to the entrance a couple patrons started booing me very loudly, I assume because I was wearing an ASU shirt. A couple servers were there and just smiled. Classy.... So we left, drove 30 minutes to Santisi Brothers where there is no pretentious valet parking, plenty of TVs, cheap cocktails and beer, and the best calzones in Phoenix. I didn't even want to return to Arcadia Tavern. If my review ended now, I would give one star. But we decided to return after football season. This time, they actually sat us at a table. We started with the pretzels and cheese sauce which were pretty good. My husband had the Reuben sandwich, which he enjoyed. I had the veggie burger. I was excited because it was well reviewed but I was disappointed. It was too big, so it was mushy and undercooked in the middle. I didn't care for the flavor and the texture. I did however, really enjoy the tater tots. Service was okay. Our server was really nice but was not attentive at times. After we got our food, we had to wait another 5 minutes for silverware. We had to flag down another server for the silverware. Overall, Arcadia Tavern redeemed itself from that first experience. I am willing to go back and try other menu items. But not during college games...
