| - Sometimes you just need a big, fruity drink. And when you're not near the Peppermill (my fave), Frankie's Tiki Room will do just fine.
This bar is always full of tourists, but it's a nice locals hangout as well. There's a large drink menu with tons of tropical delights. You can pay extra if you want to sip out of a souvenir glass, but I suggest saving that money to try another selection!
I got a Tiki Bandit (rum, blue CuraƧao, pineapple juice, and passion fruit syrup), and my husband had a Malekula (coconut rum, Tuaca, pineapple juice, and melon liqueur). $8 each. (Happy hour prices?) Both were fruity and flavorful. I've had their Mai Tais and Scorpions before, and they are both excellent as well.
I usually come here at night, so I never noticed how dark this place is. This time we visited mid-afternoon, and it took us several minutes for our eyes to adjust from the blazing sun. The Polynesian vibe is both campy and cool, and you can't beat the decor -- especially the glowing blowfish lamps! (This coming from a woman who collects bloated Mexican frogs.)
