I have always enjoyed the Carnival World Buffet at the Rio Hotel. I remember when they used to offer a $5 off coupon for their lunch or dinner in one of those many Las Vegas magazines you would find in your hotel or along the strip. But alas, haven't seen those darn coupons in the last 10 or so years (sad face). Anyways, I have always really enjoyed their dessert station/ area the most of this buffet. The creamy gelato choices they offer here are deliciously perfectly sweetened and taste just as the flavor they are named after. They are incredibly refreshing and worth just coming here just for that.
My husband always loves to come to this buffet for the crab legs (they only serve them during dinner time). Not every buffet on the strip serves crab legs, which makes him disappointed (sad face again). But anyways, the last time we came by here (last Tuesday), my husband was quite disappointed with their 1st batch of crab legs. As soon as he put his plate on our table, I noticed the off putting smell. Crab legs fresh and not overcooked should never have a strong smell. My husband lost his appetite and felt a bit sick even before really eating them. Later on he tried another batch and they were fine (no smell) but he was grossed out by the 1st batch that he just didn't enjoy the 2nd batch like he normally would (thus lowering my overall rating).
Of course this is a buffet, so they do offer other food options as well, including pho, sushi, Chinese food (including Peking duck and char siu), Mexican food, etc. But that is pretty much just standard to me (again, I am a bit fan of sweets!).
Service can be really great here but sometimes it can be pretty much lack of as well, depending on who is your server.
Food overall is good (just with the exception with our most recent visit.. just couldn't bring myself to lower the rating because of the many previous of times we have dined here and really enjoyed ourselves) and is a pretty affordable buffet. By the way, lunch is about $25 per person. I believe dinner is ~$30-$35 per person.
