  • Where do we start? We are forever grateful to the Hawks for creating such a dynamic opportunity for the young minds that are treading toward creating a better future USA. This statement says it all: What other place gives your child an opportunity to get free college courses taken while going to Highschool.? I believe NVSH can be a tough place if kids think they are quoting a "rigid HS" schedule to "skate by" without having to worry about the school communicating with the parents to keep up on the child because they are still pretty immature at this age. It took my son to become a senior & a biotechnology tour at a few universities to really understand what direction he wanted to take in life & since then he is soaring in the program. He's always been able to get great grades but now we see a difference in attitude, seriousness about his studies & excitement for college, he has been accepted to UNR's accelerated MS/BS Biotech program at the college sophomore level (junior if he does 2 summer courses at csn, 2 courses shy of junior), I really accredit that to this school. The one negative as another student had mentioned prior, is that they only post stuff on the noodle account for notifications & our guy in Summerlin that handles that posts things the night before at like 6:30pm which makes it tough on these kids because they are taking their college serious & most of them work on top of it, my son does & volunteers so the last minute notifications are really tough sometimes. I though at first my son was exaggerating so I made sure to log in & check & the few times I've looked, it was literally the night before things are due. So I just told my son, now that you know that, don't whine. Put reminders in your phone with alarms so you don't have to depend on school reminders, those are really a courtesy. There has been some hurdles for us because my son plays varsity sports for regular highschool, so expect hurdles and difficulties from BOTH schools with that because no one likes added work & that's what it does , creates added work for both school offices when the child still wants to play sports for Palo but once we sat down with Mr.Hawk (which we very much appreciated his time & candor), he was extremely helpful & understood our son still wanting to connect on the sports level outside of school so he worked with us on that. I realized in that meeting just how much it meant to the Hawks to run NVSH, you could tell they really want to make a positive difference in the educational system here & gold star for that! We have a few more kids so I hope NVSH keeps up the good work so they can help our younger children too !
