  • This place stands tall as the absolute worst intersection with a business I've ever had. Now, I'm not saying the Rolling Pin gave me chocolate when I ordered vanilla for my wedding cake or anything like that, which is a problem but ultimately not so very sad. Unfortunately the problem was that my cake lacked structural integrity and actually partly collapsed before my reception had even started. The cake may not have even had supports, I don't know. The most angering part was that Tanya, the owner and primary baker at the Rolling Pin, dropped off the cake knowing it had these problems and that collapse was, if not imminent, at least highly probable. If they'd known they couldn't make a cake according to the design we'd come up with, why didn't they just apologize and give our deposit back instead of creating a toppler? A small spray of roses had been designed for the cake topper, but this had fallen off due to the lopsidedness of a poorly-constructed cake, taking a good piece out of each bottom layer as it fell and crushing the buttercream frosting into a paste with the crumbs. The back part of my wedding cake was destroyed and it was very noticeable. When I called to ask for a partial refund, I was told that they KNEW there was a problem with the cake and that they dropped it off anyway and just left it there? They actually blamed it on me for requesting a 4 tier cake when they "usually" only do a 3 tier cake. Wow, my bad, I didn't know you accepted contracts for work you weren't capable of pulling off! When I complained about that I got hung up on, which sent me off to the Better Business Bureau. I later got a letter wherein they washed their hands of all responsibility saying they weren't responsible for damages to the cake after it was dropped off. Fair enough in principle, but that does presuppose that the cake was in stable condition to start with, and this one wasn't. There were no provisions for this in the wedding cake contract we signed so there was nothing we could do. What drives me crazy was that I'd even asked them what would happen if the cake was somehow damaged in transit or otherwise structurally problematic before I signed, and Tanya bullied me into accepting by telling me I was being paranoid. My cousins were watching - and filming - when the cake collapsed. Nobody touched it or bumped it by accident, it just kept leaning and leaning and then fell down. Total price for the cake and all the other stuff I bought/rented for Tanya to complete the cake? Oh yes, she charged me extra and made me buy basic supplies for her, like a ribbon and a cake pan since she didn't have the things she needed since she has a crumby (no pun intended) business and limited supplies? $600. No wedding is perfect, of course, and I didn't expect mine to be. But if you have any childhood dreams about a great wedding cake, do not deal with these clowns. I spit on them (ptui).
