| - The Calgary Zoo is a magical place! I expected $21 for admission and $5 for parking to seem steep, but after spending 5+ hours roaming both the indoor and outdoor pavilions, it was well worth it.
While the dinosaur park is definitely worse for wear, (possibly due to the season, as there were no plants to distract from the dated statues,) but the rest of the zoo more than makes up for it. Unlike some other zoos, I very rarely got the feeling that an animal was cramped in its pen and it always seemed the animals were well cared for. In fact, there was even a sign on the old Australia building explaining why it had been closed and that the animals had been transferred to other zoos, not kept in unsafe cages.
I loved seeing the excitement on kids' faces, as they were confronted by their favourite animals, or when they came across an exotic or unfamiliar species. I couldn't help but get excited by a few of them as well!
The zoo definitely seems to be more about animal preservation, not just keeping animals on display. A must-stop on any trip to Calgary!
