| - This is not your run of the mill coffee roaster. It has character and charm, modern mixed with old, where furniture is not necessarily matching, where brick wall tries to mesh with concrete (and Bobble Head man filling in a space of a missing brick), where track lighting hanging from ceiling wood panels attempts to blend with flat white ceilings and air conditioning ducts, mismatched area rugs adorn otherwise bare concrete floors, and counter sides are covered with empty coffee sacks once containing the Brazilian beans now in your cup. It tries not to be sterile and common, and the barista brews a mean cup of Joe. I loved my Promised Land latte $4.50 made with espresso, honey and cinnamon. It was served on a little tray with a small glass of sparkling water. How's that for distinctive? "There is an End" by Greenhornes was playing in the background. It's all fresh, none of this music I've heard before. I've never had a Promised Land latte before.
My retreat for an hour made me forget that my room at the Ritz Carlton is STILL not ready after 4 hours of checking in.
Rising Star Coffee Roasters is in the Hyatt Regency arcade, on Superior Ave. Restrooms are on the second floor, same floor as the hotel lobby. I wish there were more such coffee shops like this in Hawaii.
