Spare tire carrier stuck and won't come down. After my prior experience, I was reluctant to go back, but because of the nature of the problem, decided to try one more time after several months passing from my prior visit. Since I had a coupon for Free oil change, I thought to give them one more chance.
The service writer said I needed a new tire carrier unit at $400 plus labor and had to order it.
I doubt they even looked to see if it could be repaired. I took it to 2 wrenches on the way home and the guy used a crowbar and freed the chain and viola, it came down and back up. No charge. He said it was a common thing to happen. So if this is the case and I went to a dealership who specializes in Nissan products, why would they not try to dis lodge it? Simple, they rather sell you and entire new(un necessary) part and labor to install it.
The lesson here ladies and gentlemen is to only use the dealership for warranty work that is no out of pocket cost to you. This was the final straw for me, but will increase my 1 star rating to 2 for the free oil change and wash.
It is always smart to get an extra opinion before accepting repairs. It could save you hundreds of dollars on one visit as it did me again today.
