| - I have a love/ hate relationship with Las Vegas. When things are going great then I love this city but when things in my life start to fall apart then I loathe this city.
I'm approaching my 10 yr anniversary as a Las Vegas resident. I can't believe I've been living here for this long. I made the decision to move here when I was still living in San Diego; I would make the trip out here at least twice a month so when my lease ended, I knew I wanted Las Vegas to be my next destination.
Las Vegas is said to be a transient town. People move here all the time but they don't stay long. And I've met many, many people through out the years who have moved on. The majority of them have moved back to where they're from originally, and some have moved on to somewhere not as crazy as Sin City.
I think it's funny when I travel back home and I have to show my ID for whatever reasons, the person looking at my ID will usually make a comment on how exciting and fun it must be to live in Vegas. Party 24/7 is what they're thinking. No, it's not always fun and exciting to live in a city with very high foreclosure rates and high unemployment. But this city was ranked # 17 in "Traveler's Choice Best Destinations of 2012" according to Tripadvisor. And with that said, Vegas is a great place to visit! I honestly, think that I would enjoy this city so much more if I wasn't living here.
I love that a lot of places are open 24 hours... supermarkets, bars, restaurants, laundry-mats, gas stations, gyms, Autozone, and there is even a 24 hour nail salon, I don't know how well I would adjust if I ever moved to a new city where everything closes by midnight.
And because Vegas seems like to be on many people's "must travel to" list, I get a lot of visitors every year. It's great when it's someone I haven't seen in a very long time but I do get a little tired of having to show friends the strip... nah, I'm just kidding, I love showing them what this town is all about!
Even though I've been living here almost a decade now, I still can't seem to call Vegas "home". It may take a few more years before I'm ready to call it that.
