rev:text	Southern fare for the greasy at heart Work buddy & I came to King's Kitchen right after arriving in Charlotte - she was looking for something farm to table-esque & had been here before & liked it a lot Started w/ a couple of beers & man oh man do they have an awesome selection! I chose the Duck Rabbit Stout & it was bold & creamy & had a lovely chocolate undertone - perfect for me! Work buddy chose a darker IPA, as recommended by our waiter & he steered her right - she loved the balance of hops but no bitterness Offering NO real veggie entrees except for "Plate of Southern Vegetables" which is a combo of 4 veggie side dishes & a biscuit ( pathetic! ), I got an appie & a side for my meal & chose the Sweet Potato Fritter and the Mac N Cheese The fritters were awful - I was expecting something semi-light like a hush puppy but these were dense & heavy & completely over-fried to the point they were almost black & hot as napalm....totally burned my mouth throughout the meal - they never cooled down! Even so, these fritters were still raw on the inside - not sure how that could be accomplished. There was way too much ginger & not enough sweet potato flavor & the honey dipping sauce which I suspected had a ton of corn syrup in it, due to its abnormally thick consistency, just put everything over the top The Mac N Cheese came out in this teeny bowl & it also had a greasy consistency to it - no stringy pulls of cheese but a gloopy, congealed bechamel w/ strong white pepper flavor And from those glowing descriptions, it's obvious I was not a fan of my "meal" at all - left over half & this is coming from a Southern girl who loves her comfort food!! - 2 stars! Work buddy got the Shrimp & Grits & it was classic NOLA / Southern deliciousness - creamy grits & they didn't skimp on the shrimp! She was a fan - 4 Stars All adds up to an average 3 Stars - I prob wouldn't come back here to eat but to indulge in their wide variety of beers, that'd be a different story
