  • Arsenal Bowling is a staple in Lawrenceville, and it draws both tourists and locals alike. I think the atmosphere is cool, but overall I don't think I love it as much as other people seem to. I appreciate what they've done with the place. It has an old-school vibe, and a lot of the pieces seem to be antiques, such as the ball return mechanisms. The space is rich - there's a lot of velvet and wood. You really feel like you're taking it back a few decades when you bowl here, which I think is really cool since nowadays most bowling alleys are all about the black lights and wild rainbow patterns on the carpets. Arsenal does a lot of themed nights as well, which is fun. Most recently my friends and I went to the "all you can bowl" from 9 PM to midnight on Friday nights. The cost of entrance is $11 and you then have to pay $4 for shoes, so it seems pricey but it's a pretty good deal if you're planning on staying for awhile. All of that being said, the stress of getting a lane here is almost not worth it for me. I've had numerous experiences now where I've been with a group that's called ahead to see if any lanes were available and told that it would be no problem to get a lane, only to arrive and find that everything is already reserved. This isn't too big of an issue for us since we live in Lawrenceville anyway and are in walking distance, but if you're driving here from another area, then you need to make sure you front the high cost and reserve your lane in advance. This past Friday, after arriving and being told that all lanes were reserved (even though we were told on the phone that we should have no problem), we headed back to the bar to hang out and have a few drinks. About fifteen minutes later we spoke to another employee who told us that the lanes were not in fact sold out, and that we could easily get a lane or two that evening. What?! It seems that the employees are not in great communication with each other. We almost left that night without bowling, when all along there actually were plenty of lanes open. Not sure why the guy at the front told us nothing was available. Arsenal Bowling is a Lawrenceville classic and definitely a fun place to hang out with friends. Just be forewarned that you need to reserve your lane(s) in advance if you don't want to have an extremely stressful experience the day of.
