| - I was looking for an alternative to Henry's on Steeles Ave. and saw Hit Camera's ads and decided to check it out. Big mistake.
I had the address, yet it took me four drive-bys before I found the place because it's in the back of a shoddy house that's actually a beauty parlour. As another reviewer wrote, there is no actual parking, and if the studio next door happens to be open when you visit, there will be all but three spots out front for your car.
The door outside looks more like the door to the slaughter room in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Once you go through and descend the long, uninviting stairs, you reach a basement room that's littered with stray gear, a lot of which look like old, obsolete DV camcorders from the '90s. The clerk at the counter has a hodgepodge of lenses behind him, all of which are unlabelled. And when I ask the clerk about the item I was there to look for -- a 35mm prime lens for Canon EF-mount DSLRs -- the response I got was so hostile and rude that I immediately headed back up the stairs. Even if you had the patience to try to browse through the cat litter to look at the unmarked gear, given the slatternly state of the "store", I would be suspicious about the shape this gear is in.
This place does not deserve your business, and if there's any justice, it will be replaced by a shoe-repair shop pretty soon.
