| - My husband and I recently went to Bandera for the very first time, and I have to say we've never been treated so awful from a restaurant. We were greeted in the back lot by a woman who yelled to us if we were eating at the restaurant. I believe she yelled across the lot because she wanted to make sure we weren't just parking there. She then welcomed us and told us to go to the front to be seated. Waitress was pleasant, told us the specials, and we ordered. Here's where it goes down hill...Our bill came, my husband put his discover card in the tray, and it was picked up. Moments later a lady comes to our table sets the tray down and says they don't take discover, and walks away. Discover was our only form of pymt, so we flagged down our waitress. We told her we were just told the restaurant doesn't accept discover. She confirmed and said we need to use another form of pymt. We explained Discover is our only form of pymt, we do not have another card or cash. People are now looking over at our table wondering what's going on....waitress said she'll get her mgr. Mgr comes to the table, repeats they don't take discover. She asked for another form of pymt(don't you think we would of done this if we had it). My husband asked why there wasn't a post displaying the types of pymts accepted when entering the restaurant, and we didn't see anything on the menu. Mgr said she doesn't know why they don't list pymt info on the door or menu, but did tell us that she gets a Discover card about once a month and people in Scottsdale usually have other forms of pymt or cash. Seriously, what was she implying. Mgr told us we could leave to get money and come back to pay(Don't you think we would of done that if that was an option). She then asked when could we pay, asked us our names, if we had a business card to give her, etc. We felt like we were now getting interrogated (I get it, they want to get paid but now everyone around us watching and listening, it was embarrassing). We told her our names, we don't have business cards, and we would come back next weekend. She said ok, gave us our bill and her business card. Really, at this point what do you do?? My husband and I left. While in our car I remembered that I had my husband's $100 gift card he got back in December(we forgot about it since it had been a while), so we drove back to the restaurant. We knew it would pay the entire bill, but sadly the waitress wouldn't get a decent tip. I went back in the restaurant, found the mgr and told her I remembered we had a gift card and it should have $100 on it since we never used it. She processed the card, hands me another receipt and tells me we still owe $9.51 and to return to pay it(are you kidding me). I got back to my car and told my husband there wasn't $100 on the card and the mgr said we still owe $9.51 and we need to come back to pay. My husband said are you kidding me...lol. We never used the gift card, so i decided to call the 800 number. There was a pending charge from Bandera's for $100, so i called Bandera and told the mgr the bill should be paid plus a little for tip. Mgr told me they add 20% for tip and most gift cards will only process up to 80% of the card amount and I'll get refunded the difference when they batch out. Mgr should of told me full pymt may not go through, and we may still owe money depending on amount on card. But NO she didn't, just tells me we still owe $9.51. Are you kidding Bandera!! It was not our fault your restaurant does not take Discover. Maybe your restaurant needs to display pymt methods on the door where customers enter. We have NEVER had an issue with using our Discover card!!! We made an effort to pay our bill, your restaurant inconvenienced us and were not apologetic either! The money was on the gift card, so it's not our problem your Mgr couldn't just run the card for the exact amount of $100. We had nothing less then an unpleasant experience and you made us feel like this was our fault. Really, we still owe $9.51. Send your Mgr to us to collect the $9.51 that your restaurant so dearly needs. We have going to restaurants for over 20 years and have never been treated so poorly. Shame on you for the way you treat customers. This all could have been avoided if pymt methods were posted!!
By the way I called your corporate office and I was told i should of asked what types of pymts are accepted before we ate at your restaurant, and that the owner thinks it tacky to display pymt methods on the doors of his establishments. The service just keeps getting better! Really, what's tacky is asking a customer to go through hoops to pay the bill due to the ignorance of the establishment not displaying pymt methods then assume customer should know. Then have the audacity to tell the customer they still owe $9.51 after all that happened. LOL, you've got to be kidding me!
