| - This saddens me to write this but I have to be the Norma Rae of pub grub and to fight the good fight against restaurant corporations like Fab, the new owners. Murphy's Law has been my go-to corner pub since it opened way back. It's always had its flaws but it had heart. It was a mix of local beachers, hot volleyball player types, and old race track drunkards which was cool. The pints were always cold and you could count on a good plate of fries to share or wolf on your own.
Then a few months ago it re-opened after changing owners. I understand Fab owns the Dominion at Queen and River, the Pour House, Brazen Head, Against the Grain and some others. The decor is kind of the same, repurposed barn wood, that girly font that McDonalds is now using for their artisanal burgers, the waitstaff outfits, and the menu.
I've been here a few times, enticed by the $4.50 pour which is whatever is featured that day but! the pour is not a pint!!! When you are used to pints, that little bit less makes a difference and of course you will order more. Also the food is lacklustre here. I had a lacklustre chicken sandwich with soggy ass fries and the fish (rubbery) and chips (again soggy ass). The weirdest thing was the nacho plate which was organized by someone with OCD.
the only reason I'm giving it a star at all is that the staff has been stellar so far. I will go here for drinks because of the convenience but save my appetite of the Burgers Priest or KFC (shh, don't tell anyone) next door.
