  • Much like the Wedding Cake Shoppe, Queen of Tarts & LPK's Culinary Groove, Yummy Stuff conjures up images of whimsy. All of those bake shops are great to go in to because they are pretty to the eye. Fun cookies, whimiscal cakes, decadent desserts and cupcakes that just make you feel like a child again. Yummy Stuff is located deep into the heart of Parkdale, close to the Roncesvalles end of Queen St. I've passed it so many times and found myself enchanted by the display cakes in the window. Prompted by the cupcake crawl I decided to do a pre-emptive visit since it wasn't on the crawl list (a body can only take so much sugar in one afternoon). On the day before the cupcake debauchery I purchased a box of 7 cupcakes and took them back to the office for my staff to sample. Let's see...here's the rundown on the list: Lemon; Raspberry; Red Velvet; Carrot; Vanilla; Chocolate and....yes, folks, I jumped right off the deep end and picked up one of those Bacon Cupcakes. I asked the gal at the counter who on earth came up with this concoction and she told me that they were quite popular in the U.S. Okie dokie. So back to the office I went and here was the feedback. The Red Velvet scored a big hit with its super moistness and its cream cheese styled icing. It was one of the most brilliant red velvet cupcakes I've ever seen. When we cut it up we could tell how moist it was as it stayed really intact. The Carrot cupcake was also a hit but we were expecting it to be topped with cream cheese icing and suprise, surprise, it wasn't. The Lemon cupcake had a squirt of lemon curd in the middle of it which was tangy and the icing was tart. The Raspberry cupcake had a fresh raspberry in it and this was a hit. The Chocolate & Vanilla cupcakes were fairly standard. Ok, so for the Bacon cupcake....the cupcake itself is a chocolate oatmeal cupcake and it was super dry. The icing has a bit of a maple edge and you can taste the bacon, although not prominently. It was one of the least fav cupcakes that we sampled. I really think though that had more to do with how dry the cupcake was and if you look at the picture you'll see how it just crumbled basically leaving a lid of icing on the tray. Yummy Stuff offers up some delish cookies and some novelty styled cookies which always make lovely hostess gifts. Like the Wedding Cake Shoppe their forte is really their cakes. I enjoyed the visit to the store and found the staff to be super friendly. I'd definitely pop back in to pick up some sweet treats.
