| - The hotel is beautiful, although clearly redecorated in the 90's. At first I thought this hotel (unlike other places in QC) was very tourist friendly. The staff seemed to speak English and was polite. The longer we stayed (a total of 4 days) the worse it got. It seems as though we were very lucky the first day, it seemed as though we ran into everyone that knew what they were doing. Unfortunately it did not last. The hotel has more employees that don't care about tourists than they have those that do. We decided to go to dinner at L'ambiance, their "haute cuisine" restaurant. The prices, for 2, ranged from 100 to $150 for a 4 course meal. The food was superbly prepared and presented. Unfortunately the wait staff was extremely disappointing. We got in line at about 8:28 pm, our reservations were for 8:30. There were a few couples in front of us and the hostess was no where to be seen. About 5 minutes into our reservations (no one in line had been seated yet) the hostess finally arrived. Keep in mind that the restaurant had around 4-5 empty tables. We had our winter coats on, considering we were staying at the Executive Junior Suite in the Avoriaz Center. She looked at us awkwardly, and said something in French. I told her I didn't speak French. She then, in broken English said "jackets at reception". So we went to the hotel's reception desk and asked them where we should put our coats. She then responded in french. I told her I didn't speak french. She then pointed us to coat check. When we get to coat check, the door was closed...so I assumed we should just walk in. As we hung our jackets, the coat check boy (he was actually a 60 year old man, probably in the bathroom) came in and asked when we planned to leave. I said 10 to 10:30 and he took our jackets. We stood back in line to the restaurant which at this point hasn't moved. The hostess approached us and said something in French. I told her I didn't speak french and that we were tourists...which doesn't sound so outrageous. Why would a resort in Mexico not have English-speaking staff? This was a ski resort in Canada and should have English-speaking staff, considering its ONE OF THEIR OFFICIAL LANGUAGES. She asked for our reservation name, and then told me she couldn't find it. She then shrugged and said "are you sure you don't want our more laid back restaurant, tablee?" I said no and that the man I spoke to assured me I had a spot. The closer I got to the reservations book the more the name on the list became clear. I pointed it out to an old man, who was also a waiter. He said "oh, you're in the Avoriaz suite..." and I said yes..and then we got a seat. The menus were only in French. We were then promissed english menus that never came. We ordered our food, the food was great, but the more wait-staff we came across the more no one spoke English. And there were at least 4 other English couples in there. I just didn't get it. They also never brought us the drinks we asked for. Then some child threw up all over the floor. The older waiter (50 years of age) noticed...but didnt do anything about it. I couldn't believe it. There was vomit, 4 feet from me. The father of the child just laughed it off and walked away 2 minutes later. I then pointed it out to our waiter 10 minutes later, when it started to smell. He was startled apologized and quickly got it cleaned up. Our waiter, which we were given after 2 of which couldn't speak English, was in his 20's very cordial and spoke perfect English. We then went back to our rooms. Our shower floor was covered in soap scum, there were spots in the shower tile that had mold. Once of our kitchen cabinets was missing a handle. The electric kettle was from the 80's, and looked like it hasn't been used in ages. One of the glasses we were given was clearly chipped. Considering the maid's clean the dishes by hand in your room, using the sink in the kitchen, I find it hard to believe that she missed the chip during the 4 separate washings. The table in the room is supposed to seat 4, given their room descriptions, however they only seat 2. I left a comment on their facebook page in English with my concerns and it has been left unaddressed. Other comments (in French) were answered within a day...The corkscrew provided in the room is flimsy and more like a pen with a screw at the end of it, after 4 bottles of wine it became pretty tedious. As for the internet connection, it's pretty much non existent. They advertise high-speed internet, free wifi. We weren't given any instruction on how to connect at reception. When I called to find out, no one picked up the phone. I called again, and reception still failed to pick up the phone. They have 2 "Manoir" networks to connect to, both of them are very slow. An employee came to by door and asked to check our minibar,she told me she would look into the wifi issue for me and get back to me. She never did. This could have been a 5 star review if they paid attention to details.
