I just had a disturbing conversation with Belk customer service. My wife, who is hispanic, prefers to speak in her native tongue as she continues to work on her use of the english language. Unfortunately, she was told there are no spanish speakers when she called customer service. I asked to speak to the customer service rep because I just couldn't believe what they were telling my wife. Although I am caucasion and do not speak spanish I got on the phone and I had the rep confirm that it was true they didn't have any spanish speakers. I pointed out that where Belk is based and in all the regions where they have stores (as well as their online presence) they serve a very large hispanic population and it is just wrong not to employ spanish speakers in their customer service department. I hope others voice their opinion regarding this because Belk shouldn't be enriching themselves via a population they underserve.
