| - I've never heard of Templar Hotel so when my boyfriend found it a decent price, especially for NYE and its location (which is right in the middle of the club district), I was all in.
Upon entering, you get an artsy non-traditional and a more modern vibe. There's a little waiting area for a lobby, a tiny desk in the front enough for one staff member to work behind, and very minimal lighting. The elevator is awesome -- I can't even describe the design, you'll just to Google it lol.
The room numbers are engraved on the floor so if you're not notified by this prior to, you'll look like an idiot searching for your room number (I thought it was pretty cool and different though). The room itself is quite small but I really liked the concept -- it's reminiscent of a bachelor pad. It has a very open concept, there's no doors on the shower or the general washroom area where the sink and tub are so if you like privacy, you will get none. The room is clean and comes with your general toiletries you'd expect to find in any hotel.
Now for what I didn't like, the windows are separated with roll-down curtains, so for each window, there's a crack of it exposed that the curtain doesn't cover. When I typically go to a hotel I look forward to sleeping in because of the black out curtains but that was not the case here. These curtains are not your typical fabric curtains so there's no readjusting them to cover open areas of light (think of a blinds like concept).
Second, the noise on my floor was INSANE! I understand that it's NYE and people are drunk everywhere but there was screaming coming from the outside of our room THE WHOLE NIGHT! You could hear women in their heels as they walked in the hallways (which is how we could tell a staff member was on the floor), so I think the walls are just that thin.
I also thought it was weird that there were no ice machines on any floor. You have to call front desk if you want ice which can be a hassle, especially if they're busy.
Lastly, I'll start off by saying I think it's awesome that the rooms come with Apple TV and is perfect for the type of younger crowd the hotel attracts. However, for some reason our Apple TV was not working -- it wouldn't connect to Air Play so we could listen to music, it kept kicking us out of Netflix while browsing through movies, and it kept syncing with another room number but not ours. We called the front desk for help and although she couldn't solve the problem, she really went out of her way to try. She even called Apple to try to troubleshoot but she didn't have access to the information they needed. She was super friendly and helpful and we really appreciated the effort she made. I really wish we got her name but she is a young lady with long blond hair. She also informed us that she made a note on our file documenting the situation.
Upon checking out it was a new lady who wasn't friendly at all. No "good morning" or "happy new year" and even when my boyfriend brought up the Apple TV situation and asked if there was any management he could talk to about it, there was a hint of attitude and no willingness to help. We managed to get an email address though so at least there's that.
Although I thought the hotel was a cool and different concept compared to your average traditional hotel and is in the perfect location for a night out, it probably wouldn't be my first choice to come back here. The walls are just way too thin and the Apple TV thing was annoying.
