| - We decided to come here after reading all of the reviews and wanting to go somewhere very good for our last night in Montreal.
From the outside the building looks quiet and small, but once we walked in we were surprised to see that it was not only full, but a very large restaurant. The dining room has a homey feel to it, like it's a popular local mom-and-pop place.
The service was excellent and we really enjoyed the complementary bread, butter, bacon pieces, and pickles. The pickles were especially good - very vinegary and salty. Drinks were also great, and so was the French onion soup, although it was sweeter than I like. Portion sizes are huge here, so don't get carried away like we did. I thought the salad that came with dinner would be a normal side salad size, but it was huge - almost a meal in itself. The steak was great and cooked perfectly, and the swordfish came with a Cajun seasoning that was pretty spicy and good.
We didn't have any room for dessert and left very happy (and with leftovers). While paying the bill I talked to the waitress and she explained that almost everything is made in-house, including desserts, pickles, and bread.
Definitely worth a stop, especially if you're very hungry.
