  • The Prayers for Maria field of sunflowers is a beautiful display of love and hope for a cure of brain cancer. The field was created with Seeds of Hope, one of the only organizations in the world that funds research to prevent, treat, and one day cure childhood glioma. Maria was a 6 year child who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer called glioma. Gliomas, while rare, are fast moving brain tumors. There is no cure for glioma. The field of sunflowers is in effort to raise funds and awareness for this form of cancer and one day find a cure. Located off I-90 in Avon, people flock to the field in the summer to visit the sunflower and see the majesty of such beauty brought on by hope and prayers for a cure for cancer. I'd recommend going peak season to get the full experience. I went this week and I'd say the flowers were on the tail end of the season. As it was evening time, the heads were bowing. Young and old alike this is a beautiful vision. There is an option to donate towards the cause at a small table at the main entrance. Be prepared to walk in a field; that means wear your proper shoe attire kids. There are bugs and dirt so don't wear your fancy clothes and high heels. Quick, go see this sight before it is past.
