| - AWESOME breakfast!!
If you're looking for a huge country breakfast that the west was built on, this is the place for you. Earrrrrrly one morning I came in and had the chicken fried steak & eggs. I ordered my eggs omlette style with cheese and the biscuit on the side with my usual trio of water, coffee and OJ. I couldn't finish it all it was so much food! But everything was good, especially the gravy. I highly recommend this place for a breakfast.
Okay dinner
I went here the other day for their once famous BBQ. I had a trio platter of BBQ Brisket, grilled chicken breast and hot links. I had it with a side salad (that included their ah-mazing cinnamon french dressing!) and sonoran mashed potatoes. The potatoes were gawd-awful! I had to send them back and replaced with a baked potato, just was just ordinary. The hot links weren't t hot, just a couple regular sausage links. The brisket was smothered in their sauce which is good, but the beef didn't have any flavor itself. It seriously could've been tofu and tasted the same. However, the chicken was well prepared and had a nice char to it.
The service sucked each time, refills were hard to come by and it took FOREVER to get the bill. Not great if you're in a rush.
To my yelpers I say:
Come for breakfast only, have low expectations for service here. and if you MUST come during dinner hours, try the grilled chicken salad. It seems to be the best combination of their food offerings. This place won't be open for long, as I read online that they are about to close to become a parking lot. Kinda sad to see a Phoenix institution go down like this, but hopefully that bbq sauce will remain on store shelves for years to come... now if only they'd add that french dressing to the store aisles!!
