  • I've been debating on whether or not to write this and I have decided that people that take their car here for major service needs to know. My car has had an oil leak for awhile now and took it to a mechanic before I took it in to Sonnys due to the continuous leak who ripped me off. He was really reasonable so i took the offer (stupid me that should be been a Red Flag) After feeling taken I took in my car in to Sonnys. I've taken my car in there several times for an oil change so i figured they were trustworthy and also knew that they were a little more pricey than the previous mechanic. I did like them and realized if I wanted to get the job done right I'd have to pay more. Richard (mechanic) said that it'll take about a week or two to take it apart and repair costs will be $1500. Having that said I would have to rent a car so I did and costs me approx.$240. So I'd have to spend approx. $1800. After getting my car back Richard stated that there may be some residual oil dripping so I'd have to give it about a month before it totally goes away so I waited. I decided to put a clean card board under my car to monitor the leak. 3 mos. later I noticed the cardboard had some subtle oil marks and told them and took it in. All fixed so I was happy but a lil leery so I kept monitoring it. 5 mos later the oil stains on a new cardboard progressed. I took pictures. It continued on for 9 mos.!! And so I asked for my money back. They decided to put it back on the lift again and Richard decided it was an oil leak from the upper gasket instead of the lower (where the leak was originally). A different story now. Nathan decided that he wasn't going to refund my money back or try to repair it due to the leak coming from somewhere else. Keep in mind I still had a year warranty. He said I needed to take it to another mechanic and will find that the leak is a new leak not an old leak and they would have to charge me more just to fix that so a 2nd opinion was recommended. I find it hard to believe that there was a new problem and why didnt they mention this to me before when they tried fixing the continuous oil leak for 9 mos?!?! And why would you not fix it even having told me over and over before I committed that the repair came w/a 1 year warranty! So then I appeased Nathan and took it to Findlay Toyota a reputable company to look at it. Low and behold the leak WAS still coming from the lower gasket like I figured and Nathan and Richard lied just so they don't have to refund my money. I called Nathan and told him. He said well they probably have young mechanics that don't know what they are doing. I told him I had paperwork from Toyota showing details on where the leak was coming from and the mechanic that worked on it was in his late 40s and has been a mechanic for 15 years! I went down there and Nathan said he can only refund me $270 so that leaves me about $1500 that I gave them and the original problem still exists! Either Sonnys auto repair are honest but have incompetent mechanics or they are out to just slowly Rip you off! A Good Honest Mechanic would stand behind their work and try to fix the problem until the job is done right or refund the money in its entirety if they admit they can't repair it. Just a warning! Is there any honest mechanics or am I just picking the wrong ones? Watch for the ones that appear honest! Nathan is a Big talker and his brother Richard is not a competent mechanic. This place is a fraud! Just a warning! Sincerely, An upset and taken customer
