| - PRICE: Roughly $30-$40 for a regular cut, but it depends on what you're doing. First time was a CUT + DYE (lightest shade without bleaching my hair): $80 total. Dye can cost more/ombre etc.
I've been here twice now to see Kathy. After reading shimmering reviews of her, I felt that I had to try it. The first time I went here, I decided to dye my hair a rich coffee milk color. It was my first time dying my hair ever. Made me wish that I went through an existential punk-rock-overuse-of-black-eyeliner phase in high school.
I felt super nervous while picking out my color. Kathy is quiet, reserved, and takes a while to warm up to you. I appreciated that I wasn't pressured to make conversation. She gave her advice on a first-time color without being condescending.
After washing my hair thoroughly and "painting" the dye into my hair delicately and confidently, I started to relax a bit. She left me to work on another customer (talk about awesome multi-tasking) while my hair marinated in the head electric chair for around...20 minutes or so? I was busy reading entertaining 1-star Twilight book reviews to notice. When my hair was done toasting, she washed and blow- dried it.
She told me, "okay don't freak out when you see your hair." Needless to say, I freaked out harder than Bella losing Edward in New Moon. God, those books were awful. It's shocking when you see yourself with a totally different color than the one you're born with. It's like waking up and realizing that your thumb is gone and replaced with a can opener. Only, you know, probably less traumatizing in my case.
I told her exactly what I wanted. Three inches of hair off and a trim on my layers. I wanted this be more layered than an onion. Kathy listened and sliced my hair with the precision of sculpting feather-thin details. I was surprised she cut my tresses so quickly. I can't stand choppy layers (I'm lookin' at you SuperCuts/GreatClips!!) She didn't over flatiron my hair too much and gave it plenty of volume in the style.
My hair still looked awesome 6 months later (only much longer, trashier with the roots showing, and abused by split ends but hey!). Each strand blended nicely and intricately into the next. When I went to visit my mom on a trip recently before the second cut, she said "oh good, this haircut looks much better than the last! The one you had before was ugly." (The very first thing she told me was to "get a white boyfrand ok?? More money." oh geez).
Second time around, I couldn't be happier. I just had a regular cut ($30) done recently without a re-dye. Prices are steep. But I don't mind so much because I felt more than satisfied.
Kathy is quick, but she paid attention to my hair, and captured the very style I wanted. Definitely sticking to her as my stylist.
