| - RIPPED OFF!! I took my 2005 Nissan Xterra into the service department for a 2nd opinion. I had been advised by a private Auto repair service that I would need a new transmission. Since transmissions in Xterra's are very expensive I thought I would take it to the "experts" at Nissan. I decided to go to AutoNation since I had a decent experience when I had my other vehicle serviced. After running a 120$ diagnostic I was advised I indeed needed a new transmission and this would cost around 7,000$ with parts and labor. I was also advised that the timing chain would need to be replaced soon. I decided to invest since I plan on keeping this vehicle for a very long time. Ian, my service advisor was able to get the service manager to cut a "deal" for both a new transmission and timing chain. In total I paid 7,767$$ for this service. They assured me this would fix my issues.
After I picked up my Xterra, it ran great...2 days after I picked it up I noticed fresh transmission fluid leaking from it. I contacted my service advisor and he said to bring it in. I was told after the mechanic looked at it that it was "overflow" from the transmission and it had leaked into the undercarriage and that where it was leaking. They said all hoses and gaskets were "ok". Within 24 hours of their "inspection" I was driving my Xterra and experienced it "drag" and almost stall, the 4WD drive light and the service engine light came on and I barely made it home. Once the vehicle cooled off, it was running ok, but the service engine light is still on and I am afraid to drive it for a long distance. I called the service manager and left a message and he never returned my call.
I am VERY disappointed, I spent almost 8K to fix my vehicle and it is running the same as before!!! I even gave them the codes I had pulled up with my personal scanner. If they are the NIssan "experts" I am a little concerned that they can't fix an issue like this. I feel like they were just after my money and once they got the big ticket item taken care of, forget about the rest. I could have gone to any other Nissan dealer near me, but I had chose Auto Nation, now I regret that decision. I went 30 minutes out of my way, only to be shorted a lot of money WITHOUT fixing the problem. I am in healthcare and if someone goes to a "specialist" they expect to get great service and find a diagnosis. It's too bad Auto Repair does not have the same standards expected in Healthcare since we need our vehicles to make a living.
