My husband and I went to Phoenix for a last visit with my grandfather before he passes and were looking for some place inexpensive to stay since it was only for one night. I saw some not so good reviews for A Victory inn and suites but figured everyone has their own opinion since nothing was mentioned about drugs, drug dealers or bed bugs just rude people. So I booked a room. BIG MISTAKE!
We checked in just after 3. There were 3 men behind the front desk. As soon as my husband left to use the restroom after our 5 hour drive, one of the men tells me I'm lucky to have 3 men behind the desk. I thought this was strange but ignored the guy. The guy checking us in, tosses the room key on the counter but says nothing. So I stand there waiting to see what's next. They asked for $20 cash for a deposit which I found wierd. Most hotels want a deposit on a credit card. So again I wait to see what's next. After almost 5 minutes my husband asks if we are done. The guy says yes. I confirmed our room number and the guy says yes. I then had to ask where it was located since the property was good size. He gave vague directions and we went on our way.
Upon entering the room we saw tagging on the door, the air didn't work and the tub was running. We called the office and they said they'd send someone to fix the air. We couldn't wait for them to show so we took our bag and left. We returned to the room about 7 hours later. The air was running but it was still super hot in the room. The air turned off 2 minutes after we got there and wouldn't come back on. My husband messed with it for 20 minutes before having to use my small make up bag to hold the metal piece where the knob should have been down so the air would stay on. It never got cool enough in the room. The tub was still running. The door didn't dead bolt or have the latch at the top of the door. There were people hanging out in the parking lot drinking and the whole place smelled of "weed". We wanted that door to lock tight! There were holes in the walls that looked like someone had tried to patch and other holes where they had moved pictures or mirrors but didn't patch them at all. But after our long drive and the emotional dealings of the day we were tired.
The next morning when we checked out, my husband let the guy know the place was a dump and not worth a penny, the guy ignored him. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra money to stay somewhere else. The only reason I gave this place 1 star is because I wanted to write this review. Sorry this is so long.
