  • This isn't the best hospital, but it's certainly not the worst. My aunt worked here for 20 years before she was laid off because they wanted to save money. Most of the nurses and doctors are overweight, depressed and unhealthy. Welcome to America. A lot of them are also lucky they have jobs and should NOT be here. But the reason for 4 stars is because of the various staff members that DID make those last few days of my grandmother's life painless, and for their efforts in making us comfortable. I have a huge, loving family that bonds together during the most tragic of times. When I found out my grandmother was sick, I flew home immediately. The first 3 full days I was home, my grandmother was in Valley in the ICU. We got excellent care, they even brought in a British nurse just to talk to my grandma so she felt at home hearing her accent. There is a 2 visitor limit, and "no visitor" rule during shift change from 6-8. They allowed all of us to be there as much as possible. Sometimes with 10 people in the room and during shift changes. They understood the necessity behind it, and I appreciate that. Many of the nurses lacked compassion and obviously did not want to be there. They huffed and puffed when we said she needed her sheets changed or anything that required actually working. However, her last morning at the hospital was her best, because she had nurse Autumn taking care of her. Autumn is everything I want to be as a nurse. She did everything with no hesitation. Even thought my grandma couldn't say so, I knew she instantly loved her by the way she looked in Autumn's eyes and nodded her head to things she usually doesn't agree to. Nurse Autumn also had the best bedside manner I've ever seen. Her Pulmonologist, Dr. Kilnani, was very intelligent and nice, but I wish he were more honest. I had to explain physiologically what was happening to her. It was very hard. But she wanted to know as well. The hospital helped facilitate at-home hospice care, and the admissions nurse for the hospice had worked at Valley before, so it went very smoothly. Although my grandmother chose to go peacefully at home, I know she wouldn't have made it long enough to see me if it weren't for the care she received at Valley.
