| - Currently a 4th year Trinity College commuter student; been doing max course load for 2 of my 3 years here so far. No extracurriculars, no sports, no friends, no time, but no problem with it. U of T is what it is; you come and do your prison time for 4 years, then you get out. Work hard, graduate, and if you have time, enjoy the pretty buildings/scenery. U of T has undeniably amazing academics; the courses are challenging, the content is great, and some profs are so well respected in their field its an honour to be taught by them. You really do hit the ground running and it's undeniably tough. If you choose U of T, you're probably a masochist.
The nickname U of Tears is well deserved. If you don't get weeded out 1st year by your grades, U of T will get you one way or another, mentally or physically. It's clear that at UTSG there's a large group of people who are absolute warriors - they have high aspirations and the discipline and intelligence (or the connections lol) to get there. Others, like some international students who are clearly not fluent in English enough to be taking classes, are only there to be squeezed for funds.
Long story short, yes U of T is hard, but honestly its to be expected from a uni with that kind of reputation. You are definitely just a number and totally alone. The good thing is though, if you are able to survive this university, especially as a commuter student taking lots of courses, you will feel as if there is nothing much left in the world you can't take on. Yes we are snobby, especially towards sister campuses UTM/UTSC who think their campuses are just as hard (get real dude you're only salty because you didn't make it in), but it's well deserved. U of Tears in my opinion is a giant 4 year test of mental and physical endurance; you are pushed to your limit and you're all the better because of it. Come, do your time, suffer like the rest of us, get your piece of paper, and emerge a Spartan. That, or die trying. Survival of the fittest bro .
Pro tips - Don't buy the course readers, find your registrar asap, and if you are Trinity, they give you a couple free meals per year (10 PT or 15 FT) so don't miss out.
