Unfortunately this was not one of those awesome Mastro's visits that everyone raves about. We've been to both Mastro's in OC and the one in LA and this was by far the least pleasant visit. We've also been to a lot of the high-end restaurants in LV and typically skipped Mastro's because we could get it easily when we lived in SoCal. But now that we live out of state, we were craving BUTTER CAKE!
When Mastro's called to confirm our reservations, we mentioned that we would be coming in straight form the airport, and they said it wouldn't be a problem to store our luggage during dinner. Upon arrival, they didn't have any room in the clutter closet behind the hostess stand. We brought our luggage to the dinner table which was slightly awkward but there was room.
We had two different main waiters and the service was a bit off. The appetizers were cleared from the table and placed on a stand next to us...not sure why they weren't just removed. Then the entrees came - we were warned about the hot plates but they were barely warm. I ordered the steak medium rare and parts of it was rare so I didn't eat it. It took a long time to flag down someone to get our dessert order. I had previously mentioned in my OpenTable reservation that we were celebrating a friend's birthday. Mastro's was very kind in bringing out a slice of chocolate cake for her with a message written on the plate. When the butter cake finally came out, it was also not very warm. We didn't finish the cake but it was still pretty delicious.
Maybe this experience was an anomaly or off night, but we won't be back soon. Even if the butter cake is divine.
