| - This is the place to go for a fantastic steak dinner in Las Vegas. I was unfamiliar with Del Frisco's before my last trip to Las Vegas. That merely led to a series of happy surprises as the staff and the food at Del Frisco's kept exceeding my expectations over the course of a night.
A local booked a reservation for about sixteen for a Saturday night. I arrived uncharacteristically early, so I sat down with the wine list, which could have occupied me for the entire weekend. A wine steward asked if I had any questions, and we talked a bit about a Central Coast Cabernet from a vineyard I had visited. Many (most?) wine stewards would have tried to talk me into something pricier, but the gentleman treated me as if I had selected something thirty-times pricier. Yes, they have wine that was thirty-times pricier than what I ordered... and I ordered a bottle, not a box. If you're a wine snob with a bankroll, you'll see a dozen once-in-a-lifetime wines.
Eventually our party arrived, and we were seated in a semi-private dining room. Another party about our size shared the room. We each had two or three tables full of people. Our servers were attentive without a hint of arrogance. When some people ordered their steak medium-rare, they explained what that would actually mean, and some decided to go for medium instead. (You and I are better than that, though. You're going to follow my lead and get a big fillet, medium-rare, and savor it with a nice Cabernet, aren't you?)
For some reason, my dining companions preferred mixed drinks to wine. I only had one martini before dinner, and it was bracing and a fine palate cleanser.
The sides can be served family style. You'd have to really like brocolli or asparagus to finish them. Finishing a literally-mountainous order of onion rings on your own would be impossible.
But you're here for the steak. And it does not disappoint. The filet mignon comes in two sizes. I don't think I've had a better steak anywhere. If you're into fancy sauces or deconstructed preparation, you might want something besides the fillet, as it is simply a perfectly prepared fillet. If that's too straightforward for you to enjoy, then my advice is useless. If your mouth has been watering while reading this paragraph, then there's nothing more to say.
