  • I see so many reviews about this place, some of which are good, but mostly bad, so as someone who used to work here, I can give some extra information. The dry product (dog/cat/other foods and habitats): They have many options and will price match with LOCAL PET stores. No they do not have pedigree, or dollar store brands. (You shouldn't be feeding that waste to your animals anyways). They have many better options and the information on them as well. It is also very beneficial to sign up for the rewards card (it's free and you get nice discounts) it will also track your purchases so you can get an old receipt if you need it. Check out the buy ten get 1 food program. The small animals (guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, rabits, gerbils): They do NOT guarantee the sex of the animal, so be careful. (They do this because they are not trained vets, and with younger animals, it can be harder to tell. So when in doubt, get a second opinion) Sometimes the glass is dirty and there's poop in cages, they are animals, they poop, and they flick their bedding at the glass or walls. But they do clean every small animal cage EVERY day (new bedding) fresh water, top off food etc. So when you see a dirty cage, don't assume neglect or abuse, let someone know and it will be taken care of. If the ferret poop in the corner of the cage bothers you, don't get a ferret. They poop all day and in corners. However, not all the animals can be handled daily, so some are scared and don't want to be taken out by every small child that walks by, if they freak out, let them be. It's better for them and you or your small child. The birds: Birds poop. All day. Every few minutes. They poop. They clean the cages, but they are older, so they aren't super pretty and fabulous. But the large birds are handled daily. They have a few longer term employees that dedicate most of their time to handling and training them. Some birds just don't like some people, so don't stick fingers in the cages. The smaller birds are hit or miss. Ask about the animal and spend time with it before making a decision. Cats: They get spayed or neutered. They get shots. Handled daily. Very sweet babies. Just a bit pricey. Fish/reptiles: this is the area they need the most help. It's a huge room that is hard to keep up with. There is a freshwater fish guarantee for 48 hours. I recommend bringing a water sample in before buying a fish so that they can test it beforehand. That way if anything is off you will know and fix it before adding fish to an already struggling tank. That said, yes, they do sometimes have ich breakouts or other problems. But they do treat it. They do have people to clean the tanks, but sometimes it spreads quickly and there is a loss. If you do see a health problem, let someone know, and come back later after its been fixed. They are human an miss things just like we do. Employees: unless you are talking to a manager, just be careful who you are getting advice from. Kaitlin (she works with birds) is wonderful and helpful. Pet world has a high turnover rate. They pay minimum wage or 7.50 for full time employees. A lot is expected of them, so most leave cause they can't afford to work there. That said, most are high school students that don't know or care (not to say there won't be a gem in there somewhere) training isn't the same for everyone. Your best bet is to go to the registers and ask for someone that knows a lot about what your looking for. It's not that the employees don't care, they just don't know. They are often given so many jobs to do in one shift that it seems there is no one to help you, that's why you just need to ask. If an employee doesn't know, ask the manager. They know their stuff and will be a great help. If you need a nail trim or other odd services, call ahead to see if someone is available. I gave only 2 stars because of the employees (how it isn't consistent and always the greatest) but that is the company's fault. Products and prices would be 4 stars
