Outstanding! My boyfriend and I saw the sign for the Chanute Air Museum on 57 a few weeks ago, and decided to finally check it out this weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed my visit.
When we walked through the door, we were greeted by Ed at the front desk. He chatted with us and gave us a map of the museum and some pointers about what we had to be sure to see. We followed his instructions and walked through all of the exhibits. I really liked the exhibits about life on base and the Tuskegee Airmen, but seeing the planes in the hangar and outside was the best part. I don't know much about planes, but I liked seeing the replica Wright brothers plane, and I liked seeing the different features of the various military planes. There was another museum volunteer out near the planes who spoke with us about some of the things that we saw. I really appreciated his obvious enthusiasm and extensive knowledge about the collection.
Admission was $10 for adults and $5 for students. We looked at all of the exhibits, and I think we got through in about 90 minutes. I highly recommend the Chanute Air Museum as an excursion for anyone in the greater Champaign-Urbana area.
