| - One of my favorite things about Nature's Bin is their work to combat ablism and support training of those who might otherwise not be given a chance at other places. I believe that they have purchased the (now former) McDonald's adjacent to their parking lot to transform into a training center? I'm totally down with that! I like to know that the place where I spend money is working toward making the world more accessible to all people. That's pretty rad. I do admit that I wonder how someone who utilizes some type of mobility assistance like a wheelchair or scooter can get down those aisles because they've got the good stuff squeezed in there tightly!
I would LOVE for Nature's Bin to bring that embracing accessibility aspect to their pricing. I know that various foods and products (organic, fair trade, sweat shop free, etc) come with a bit of a higher price tag, but; some of the items they carry are priced higher than at other non-chain, similarly conceptualized markets. That makes it rather cost prohibitive and the target group that their programs seek to empower often fall into lower income brackets...
I wish I could combine my favorite aspects of places like this here, in Ohio- Nature's Bin in Lakewood & Cleveland's Westside Market with the awesome Georgia spots I grew up with- Your DeKalb Farmers Market in Decatur & Sevananda in Atlanta- to form a super awesome affordable, fresh, yummy healthy, conscientious, place. Someone want to get on that? ;)
I find that I tend to go to Nature's Bin for their bulk goods. I wish they had a larger selection, but; they're the only place around that I've been able to find nutritional yeast. Sometimes they have their non-food items marked down/ on sale and you can get a great deal on some health and beauty products. They also seem to keep a nice bit of greenery ready to take home and plant during the season- in case you've got a green thumb!
