| - Hanny's is one of those places that I had driven by several times while in Phoenix, and I finally got a chance to check it out while downtown and hungry after getting out of a concert around 11:30ish - the first question that popped into my head was who is still serving food @ this hour? Yelped Hanny's and sure enough their kitchen stays open until 1 AM I believe ;)
It was quite busy here after the concert ... I'm sure many people came here after the show as well since it was a Wednesday night and not much seemed to be going on downtown around the arena.
It's a cool modern upscale looking space ... We were seated promptly upon arrival. However, the service the rest of the night was subpar overall. It took out server probably 10-15 minutes to greet us, and by that time we were ready to place our full order of food and a few cocktails.
We tried the shrimp prosciutto first - it says on the menu that it was grilled, but it tasted and looked like the shrimp were fried. Neither of us cared for this item - it was VERRRY salty and tasted rather blah. We also tried the Carne Pizza - it was much better than the shrimp, but nothing to boast about. To be honest ... I was not really a fan of the food menu here. I am fairly easy going when it comes to food, but nothing really caught my attention on this "odd" menu.
We also tried a dirty martini and a coconut rum and pineapple, and the drinks were good. Nevertheless, our server forgot to bring lemons with our waters as we requested. She also failed to give me 3 blue cheese olives as requested ... Instead I only received two olives :(
The atmosphere was cool trendy as a DJ spun music from a booth in the venu - but the music was so loud it was hard to talk without having to constantly say WHAT? Huh? I CAN'T HEAR YOU ..,
I had much higher hopes for Hanny's - it looks the part - loved the ambiance (would have been better if the music wasn't so loud). I do feel they should revamp their entire menu because it consists of far too many unappealing items. Train your servers better - I know there was probably a big rush after the concert, but the manager should be aware of a concert going on and should have had sufficient staff ready to go. At this point I would rate Hanny's a mere 2 stars because it was just an overall mediocre experience. There isn't anything memorable about food/drinks there, the service was poor, the prices seemed a bit high based on the poor service & lack of great taste. and I would probably only return for drinks, since they did appear to have quite a unique drink menu. I would try coming back here again if I was in the area, but I def won't be going out of my way to make a return visit.
