  • I saw this place on Diners Drive Ins and Dives talking about the Soul Roll and how it's so amazing. Given the location, there will never ever be a day when I walk in and sit down because I hate trying to navigate downtown Charlotte so I opt for the next best thing and had Postmates bring Merts's to my office. I ordered the Soul Rolls, some friend green tomatoes, a cup of chicken soup and also a bowl of chicken soup for two of my co workers. The first thing they both said was that the soup was salty, but given the menu I was already expecting the salt to be heavy so their comment didn't surprise me. Even after a lengthy delivery process my Soul Rolls were indeed tasty; maybe contained too much black eyed pea and not enough chicken? But certainly not a deal breaker. The fried green tomatoes were tasty too and I finished them quickly. They seemed to specialize in low country fish and sea food dishes, none of which I'm a big fan of but if you like that sort of cuisine, then Mert's is the place for you :-)
