| - This is MY GO-TO place for eating Chinese food in Arizona! As a Chinese-American and a modern foodie, I can appreciate the simplicity and authenticity of this Chinese restaurant and all that it has to offer! Let's first by saying, yes it's not the nicest looking place. It's not sleek or reputable by design, but it works, the food is great, and the service is pretty good too!
I go here with both my families, my side of the family and my wife's mom and dad, and even though we order totally different stuff on the menu, it always ends up being great!
When I eat with my family, we order whatever we want. Usually it'll involve a couple of meat dishes that you know are fresh from the guy cutting them, a noodle dish, clay pots or hot pots with yummy sauce to mix with your rice, and maybe a seafood dish!
When I eat with my wife's mom and dad, they order from the fixed "family menu" which is usually cheaper but includes four dishes: a soup, a meat, a seafood, and maybe another meat dish? I forgot! But again, it still turns out to be great!
Hands down the best restaurant to eat authentic Chinese dishes while having some pretty good service! I have been going here on Sundays for years now with my two families and will continue to go until it stops being great!
Here are some helpful tips that I can offer:
1) Best dishes to order
-Half of Whole Duck (ask for more duck sauce, it's good to put on the rice)
-bbq pork (char siew) or crispy skin pork (it's the 3 layer fat pork, I forgot what it's called)
-beef chow fun (if they ask wet or dry, ask for it dry)
-Seafood combination crispy chow mein (egg noodles if they ask?)
-salted fish and chicken hot pot, or Taro and pork belly hot pot ( my fave)
-soy chicken with the ginger on top (half of whole)
-salt and pepper fried squid
2) Ask for rice bowls, usually your table has plates and silverware but I like putting my rice in a bowl so that I can mix it thoroughly with sauces that I have available and grabbing pieces of meat from dishes
3) Ask for the hot chili sauce (lat chiu yao), it goes well with everything
4) Dont be afraid to ask for refills on rice!!! It's cheap, they don't care!
5) Order a drink cause the water doesn't taste so good (we always get hot tea anyways, more authentic that way)
6) in the winter time, ask for the hot dessert soup, it's sooo good!
I hope I influenced you to try this place! It has a special place in my heart and my stomach
