I like unassuming bars and this one is great not only because it is under the radar in the neighbourhood but also because it's one of my locals.
Yes, it is a dive inside but somehow it retains a unique sort of charm and does not feel at all dirty like others might. If this bar were in the west-end (think Ossington) it would be packed 7 nights a week.
They have an excellent happy hour of $4 pints of Amsterdam, which for me is great since I'm a fan of local brews and Amsterdam. The food isn't too bad and the kitchen is open till close, which is a definite bonus. I can't say enough about the staff - extremely attentive and friendly and if you decided to venture in on your own, you'd have no problem joining in a conversation at the bar. The locals sit at the bar, which yeah, is definitely a mixed bag, but all are very friendly and you're promised an interesting conversation at the very least.
I sort of want to see this bar become more popular but at the same time, enjoy the fact that it's not nearly as well known as it should be.
