| - Still reeling, and it's been three years!
My husband and I had occasion to stay in the Howard Johnson Cleveland Airport in late 2012. We reserved a Queen Smoking room (Room 137) for the nights of December 1 & 2, 2012, checking out December 3, but elected to check out a night early.
When we checked in, we were dismayed by, but opted to overlook, the peeling wallpaper above the door of the room, the filthy room telephone (I carry a cell phone, so I hoped I would not need it), and the dirty HVAC unit. We were disappointed in how uncomfortable the bed and pillows were, but we opted to tough them out, since the bed and bath appeared to be clean (though we later noticed an unidentifiable stain on the blanket).
However, the final straw was Sunday morning, when we tried to take showers and learned we couldn't have hot water unless we "let the water run a couple of minutes." I had to pick up that filthy telephone to call the front desk, and that was the answer I was given. I told Robin, who answered the phone, that I'd already done that. She replied that she'd "look into it and call me right back. After waiting forty minutes for the call, and it never coming, we elected to leave. Once again, someone at the front desk said the water had to be left to run awhile, because "there aren't many guests and it takes time for the hot water to get from one building to the other."
Seriously? This is how you run a motel? By telling guests who are in a hurry to wait around for water to travel through pipes?
Truly unacceptable. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy.
