| - I purchased our first family reptile, a pacman frog from this location. I have never owned a reptile before and should have done plenty of research, but figured the staff in the fish/ reptile dept should be knowledgeable. First off, I was never informed to ever pet or hold the frog because of the oils in our skin could harm the frog. Secondly, I purchased a small 5.5 gallon tank since he is a baby and was advised that he would need a 50watt bulb for his aquarium. Almost a month goes by, I go to clean out the old soil and replace it with new...and notice ALL the dead crickets in the soil that he has not eaten. So I think. ..hmm...maybe he just does not like crickets and purchased waxworms. Still...2 days goes by and he still has not eaten. I called another location tonight and spoke with a rep extremely knowledgeable about reptiles at the 7th ave/bell location. She advised to never leave live feed in if the frog is not eating it after quite a few hours, esp because they can feed off the frogs skin/scales (crickets). I explained my issue with the frog apparently not eating and was not sure what to do at this point, but from what I researched (after the fact) online...stated the main reason could be temperature. We mist the container daily, feed him every 2-3 days just as directed. The helpful rep at the 7th ave location asked what size the tank is and the wattage of the bulb. Found out the watt bulb was overheating the container FOR THE LAST MONTH! I went back and bought a 25watt. Feel so bad for the poor frog, but extremely frustrated at the lack of knowledge the reptile dept at the deer valley location have. You would think the main points I've made in this complaint are VITAL to advise new reptile owners of. I do not recommend this location to anyone purchasing a reptile. I was blown away with the information and knowledge provided by the reps at the 7th ave and bell location, how willing they were to help combat the problem, and always offer further assistance if needed.
