  • Glad I waited until I actually called customer service to cancel my service before I wrote this review as I almost gave them a better rating then they actually deserved. First off, when I first moved to Phoenix, I asked around to family and friends about which internet provided at a reasonable price and was told to give CenturyLink a try. So, when I moved into my place and was given an advertisement for a deal on the internet for $35 a month for the first year, I jumped at the opportunity. I decided to call to get it set up instead of going to a Centurylink store. Setting up my account and service over the phone was quick, but some points that I should bring up to you readers for your information before you decided if you want to switch or get Centurylink is as follows. #1. Verify that you are or are not on a contract. I guess it was my fault because I didn't read the small print and the customer service person on the phone didn't tell me that I was signing up for a contract for a year. #2. When I got my internet service, they told me that I would be getting 40 Mbps, but most of the time it didn't even come in this fast. So, if you are wanting a certain amount of speed, I'd recommend getting the package up from the one they say goes to a certain speed. Because they make no promises as to how fast internet will be, just up to a certain speed. #3. They pretty much make you pay to rent their box. Even though I had bought a modem with my last internet provider, Centurylink told me that they can't guarantee a speed if I didn't use their modem. So, there goes another $10 a month for rent on their modem. Since my internet never was as fast as they told me it would be, I could've just used my other modem and it would've been just as fast. For the most part, the internet was fast enough for what I use it for except for when I am streaming apps like Hulu or Netflix. They tend to buffer in the afternoons and weekends. My main reason for giving this particular place a 3 star instead of something higher is because of the guy I dealt with when trying to cancel my service due to me moving out of state. I went to this actual store to ask about my account and how to close it down. He informed me that I was under contract so I would have to pay a $200 cancellation fee. I told him I didn't have that kind of money just sitting around, so he told me that he could switch me to a plan called Price for Life and that I would be able to cancel after that took effect in a week. Before deciding to switch to another plan I asked about transferring my service to Vegas where I would be moving and he told me that they wouldn't be able to as Vegas doesn't have Centurylink, but I've looked it up and they do have it. Anyways, I decided to switch to the Price for Life plan so I could cancel before my move. I then asked him about the modem and he told me I could just drop it off at "any" CenturyLink locations. Yay!! thought it would be super easy as that, but when I called customer service the other day to cancel my service, they told me that they would have to send me a label to send it back to them. That you DO NOT take it to the store. Ugh, wish I would've known this last week as now I'm having to have them send the label to my new address as it wouldn't get to me before I leave. So, my best suggestion for you when cancelling, is to just call customer service and ask them, don't depend on what the people in the store say.
