  • I absolutely love Dr. Katz! I found her when I had to catch a beat up feral kitty from my colony. He was rough, he had been in a bad fight and had a huge jowl abscess. I had him cleaned up by an emergency vet. He needed antibiotics, and while medicating him I eventually smelled/saw his teeth and it made me want to cry! Many were broken in half or worse, black and rotting. I couldn't release him with teeth like that. Of course my mother had just gotten a hospital bill and flooded her house, the car needed a repair, the emergency vet was painfully pricey. It was a bad month, and this was a stray cat. When it rains it pours. I couldn't let him suffer (or destroy my spare bathroom for another month). I immediately started calling vets, begging for reasonable prices, willing to see a stray, maybe take payments. Much harder than it sounds! Some were $700+. Others only saw tame pets or required shot records (what kind of vet turns away any kitty in pain?!?). Somehow I stumbled on Dr. Katz. She was booked up for ages but the price was low! I explained frantically, and they got him in quickly. Everyone was very sensitive to my situation and didn't judge. I figured I would be trading quality, considering the price. Better than nothing, right? Wow! I had it all wrong. Aptly named Bruiser had tamed up a bit but he was still "rough around the edges." I tried to tell people he looked mean, but he was mostly deer in the headlights harmless to humans. The emergency vets took one look at his stocky brick sh*thouse build, scarred face and his 6 extra toes with big claws, and they weren't taking any chances. They handled him roughly and he was tense. Dr. Katz actually listened... she approached him slowly, spoke to him kindly, and handled him just like I would: cautiously, slowly, gently. He relaxed and let her give him an ear scratch! I instantly knew I had found a special vet. Bru received excellent care, and instead of bad surprises at checkout, I got good ones. While he was out she cleaned him up a bit, nails and ears and fluids at no charge. Antibiotics were included at no extra charge (including a second round a week later, when he needed it because he was slow to heal likely due to his FIV). Bruiser is now almost as fat as he is happy. His sole aspiration in life is to be used as a big purring pillow, and a huge part of that is because of Dr. Katz. Days after those broken, rotting teeth came out, he was a new cat. I tried to release him, but he wouldn't leave. He's the most mellow happy cat I've ever seen, every single day is the best day of his life. Since then she's seen a number of my kitties. Today she saw three of my pets for dental cleanings, and squeezed in a new feral tom I had just captured (who now only has 7 teeth left, and is already feeling better). I had my appointment time wrong and I was very late, but she was still able to see me, thankfully. As always the price was reasonable, and the staff was fantastic. To sum it up... The pros: 1) 110% excellent with animals and their humans. Great approach and manner. Takes her time. Kind and compassionate, clearly loves all animals. 2) Extremely reasonable prices. Does NOT jump to the most expensive option then make you feel like a crappy person if you don't do it. Will recommend low cost alternatives when she can. Who knew cats can take Benadryl? 3) Excellent results. She looks so young, but is very experienced. Her work is top notch. No sacrifice in quality, despite low prices. 5) Great staff! I've been to places where I love the vet, but the receptionist is clearly miserable or the vet techs are inexperienced. I have yet to meet anyone I didn't instantly like at her clinic. The ONLY two complaints I have: 1) There is not enough Dr. Katz to go around. We need to clone her. Yes, it takes a long time to get in. Yes, it sucks... But really, did you expect an excellent, inexpensive vet to be sitting around twiddling his/her thumbs? The two times I have TRULY needed it, she has found a way to accommodate. I don't know how (dang she's busy) but I am grateful! 2) My biggest gripe. She has a wellness clinic, not a full service outfit. No radiology, no euthanasia services, etc. This mainly irks the heck out of me because, God forbid something bad happens, I don't want to take my cats anywhere else! So, thank you Dr. Katz. You are wonderful, the rarest type of vet. I refer everyone and their mother to you. They are idiots if they go anywhere else. And thank you, most of all, for my Bruiser!
