| - I've always wanted to learn how to play guitar, but I'm a lefty and my parents were never able to buy me a guitar. Finally got a left-handed guitar 5 years ago. It's not the best, beginner acoustic, but not bad to start with. Tried to teach myself online, which is very hard when you have absolutely no musical background. Took a class at CCAC, which helped a little, but I knew that I needed more.
On a whim I e-mailed Backstage Guitars, just to see if I could get some lessons. They are close to my house. Ryan e-mailed me back very quickly and we set up a weekly 30 min. lesson, later in the day which works great with my schedule!
He's really good, not just at playing guitar, but he feels you out and figures out your strengths and weaknesses. Then he writes out chords, songs, tabs, etc. to go home with you. That is your homework. Challenging, yet doable.
If you are struggling with anything between lessons, just shoot him a text and he'll send you a sound clip or tips or whatever you need.
Ryan pushes you just enough to convince you that you can do it, but it's still fun. I love that he always compares my progress to how I played the week before. "That sounds way better than last week!" LOL. I need these little reassurances. They really help. And I never feel rushed. Yeah, may have taken me an extra week or two to learn that, but I'm getting it. And I always leave my lesson in a good mood, like I accomplished something! Even if I am only competing against myself! :D
