I came here with a friend after dinner last night. We wanted something to satisfy our dessert cravings but not something too heavy. After walking by a few other dessert/café places on Yonge (many of which I have already tried) I noticed the interesting decor inside, not to mention the glass case of various cakes, macarons and other sweets in the front. I was even more delighted when we came in and found out that they also served gelato. I have a difficult time saying no to gelato. We skipped over the Dufflet-looking cakes and ordered 2 single scoops of pistachio and caramel-pecan gelato. This was my friend's first time having gelato and even after I explained to him the difference between most ice-creams and gelato, he said he couldn't taste the difference as it still tasted as "ice-creamy" as he likes it. Cheers to another gelato convert! Speaking of first-times, my friend has also never tasted a macaron in his life. And while this is not the first place I would normally take friends who have never tried a macaron (being a self-proclaimed macaron connoisseur of my own) I hesitantly ordered 4 macarons to share. The person at the store front told us that if we bought 6 there would be no tax. So we bought 6. I tried the pistachio macaron and was not too impressed with the flavour profile, texture and lack of a proper "foot". Not wanting to ruin the macaron experience for my friend, I simply told him it was "good enough". Luckily, my friend's sweet-tooth needs not differentiate between a good and bad macaron as he happily ate the other 5. =) Other than returning for their gelato and possibly if I was craving a Dufflet-cake, there are numerous other places on Yonge that I can go to for after-dinner sweets.
