| - An issue I have with lots of restaurant is being seated in the worst seat in the house (right beside the exit door at the back of the restaurant). If it's a server issue, people are smart enough to say ok Brittany, you can take over that table because they wanted to move & not have it be a huge problem. It's just my opinion - I could be wrong.
So, Brittany was our at our first table & I was sad that she couldn't take care of us because she was so welcoming & friendly. We were just as pleased with our new server, Danny! He was informative & engaging & even a little cheeky in a fun way.
First the Coconut Shrimp - What's up w/the odd numbers...please don't feng shui my food! They had a crispy coating of coconut & were cooked well. The star of the appetizer though was the sweet potato, daikon & radish strips in a Chipotle Agave Glaze! I almost forgot to eat the shrimp it was that good! The Pear Apple Salad which was mixed greens with sugared pecans was yummy!. I got the raspberry vinaigrette on the side. It was an odd color for raspberry & more creamy than vinegar-y but still tasty. Overall I liked my salad. My sweetheart got the caesar salad w/caesar dressing on the side. His dressing seemed to be the same base as the raspberry (weird) & you had to stir it up to really taste it. He didn't think it was all that good & ended getting some raspberry dressing for his own salad.
The trout w/the barley "risotto" (it's in quotation marks on the menu which is always a bad sign). If it isn't risotto, don't call it risotto. It was boiled, seasoned barley (a bit watery on the plate) with mushrooms, but tasty & hearty & it went well with the trout. The trout was cooked perfectly & had a great flavor and was a good portion. The few veggies that came on the side were well cooked and I ate them up. Hubby-bubby had the pork tenderloin w/sweet potato hash and the grilled veggies. Again, not very many veggies but good. The sweet potato hash was nicely done with a little bit of spice to it. The pork was two medium cuts of meat & very, very good. Sweetie was talking about it even the day after.
We ordered the bottle of Swallow (unoaked) Chardonnay from Oregon, but they didn't have that. They had another one from Oregon that was similar & light & clean on the palate but I can't remember the name.
We ordered the Tiramisu to split. It had a light flavor & texture, but for me it was too light in flavor & texture & needed more ladyfingers soaked in more espresso.
It's a solid restaurant food & service-wise. It's not all that impressive decor-wise and is in a strip mall with cars parking & their lights shining into the restaurant. I mention this because I've been to other restaurants (Bistro le Bon) in shopping centers that manage to avoid it being an issue. I also wish the bar area (it's a walk thru from the entrance & from the dining area) was partitioned off a bit better as the noise from the bar can be quite loud in the dining area.
We did go to the bar after dinner which is nice & they have good tv's. Pat was our server in there & he was very nice & funny. If we're in Ballantyne we would probably eat there again or stop into the bar and are glad we tried it. They should do well if they maintain the excellent food preparation and service staff.
