| - Came to the area for Spring Training and figured I'd book a room when I got to Arizona for some possible last minute deals. I booked the reservation on Expedia, and tried to call the hotel to confirm, but the number listed wasn't available. I called it several times, but it was a busy signal. Weird. Anyway, I was only 30 minutes away and figured I'd just arrive, the pictures online looked decent so I said 'what the heck' it was the cheapest hotel in the area. When I arrived I had an eerie feeling immediately. Sketchy people hanging outside, smoking cigarettes, and loud music playing out their cars. Check-in girl was nice, but then again I didn't ask too many questions because I wasn't expecting grand accommodations anyway for the price I was paying. Anyway, I had already paid for the room in full on Expedia, but there's a required $40 deposit at time of check in that you get refunded back to you. I thought this was pretty standard. On the way to my room I saw filthy pathways with dirty wash rags on the floor, ROCKSTAR cans on top of AC units, broken room equipment posted up against the wall near a wide-opened door dark maintenance room full of creepy broken things in it, broken ice machine on the 2nd floor, etc etc... you get the picture. I got a "smoke-free" room that smelled liked cigarettes and heavy lemon Lysol. There was cracks in the sink and dirty towels. The bed was creaky and only had white sheets on the bed. I saw a thin folded comforter on the closet shelves that I didn't dare unravel or touch. I didn't look under the bed in fear of what I might find. Good thing I had my own blanket and I used my jacket as a pillow. They advertise free WIFI which didn't work - attempted to call the front desk but there's no phone in the room, oh and yes, their phone lines to the hotel was still busy. The door had a 1 cm gap between the frame and if you wanted to really peak in, I bet you could. I had to mess with the door lock for it to lock properly, and the swing bar door guard was becoming unscrewed. OMG and good thing I checked my window because it wasn't even locked! The heater didn't work so I was cold all night. Plus, I got a strange visitor at about 7pm - some guy knocking on my door looking for his friend. Though he was very nice, he even admitted he was a little "f"'d up, looked unkept, had 2 backpacks on, and was looking for his friend who said she had a place to stay and gave him my room number... what the heck. Later I saw them hanging out by the pool. (I hope it wasn't some local versus tourist plot they were trying to set me up on, but I felt unsafe because it was just so random.) This place looks like where people do drugs and have sex honestly. I slept in my street clothes, shoved my luggage against the door and I was out by morning time! Long story short....you get what you pay for. I just needed a cheap room with a bed and bathroom and I was out at sunrise. Breakfast only served on weekends. I'm surprised they even had a microwave, fridge, and TV.
