Bar à Burre is a very nice and cozy pastry shop in the less busy part of old port. I was lucky to stumble upon it in March.
I really enjoy the interior. The ceiling is high. All the seating is upstairs. There is an area with a bench and a couple of chairs as you enter upstairs. The shelves, little bookcase and the rest of the decoration give this a feeling of a living room. There are a few regular tables and high chairs along the "mezzanine". A couple of nice plants are located by the windows upstairs - I think that's the best spot in the house.
The have a good selection of cookies and pastries. The almond croissant that I tried was deliciously crunchy and the sweetness was not overwhelming. Definitely recommend. The coffee was good too.
The staff were very friendly and helpful in making decisions (though I imagine it would be very difficult to make a wrong choice). I thought the prices were reasonable. I look forward to trying out their paninis and salads next time.
