| - Hmm I didn't know that there is a page for the Toronto Light Festival, but since I've stumbled upon it, might as well add my 2 cents.
I came here on Family Day (Monday, Feb 20). We parked at the Green P parking nearby for $7 on the after 6pm overnight rate. Good thing the parking lot at Front/Parliament was only less than 5 minutes walk, because that day was exceptionally cold and windy.
Unlike the Christmas Market where you have to pay $6 entrance fee for weekends, the Light Festival was free throughout its duration, which in my opinion was fair, since there were significantly fewer interesting sights to see. I was expecting some very pretty lights due to the BlogTO and other posts that I saw on the news and social media. However, I was disappointed to find out that they've used pictures of other light festivals from around the world on their posting, thus the pretty light tunnels were nowhere to be found. I definitely felt misled and according to my friends, they felt the same disappointment as well.
As for the light installations, I think the only thing worth photographing was the angel wings, the others were quite underwhelming in my opinion. I think the shops around the Distillery District were much more interesting to look around than the actual art installations. There were some cool stores around selling niche nik naks, home furniture and decor, apparel, and of course, alcohols. Unfortunately, since it was a holiday, a few of the shops and restaurants were either closed for the day or closed earlier than usual. And you know what else was also closed? The freaking heat lamps. There were still a considerate amount of people that day and the weather was rather cold, but somehow they didn't bother turning on the heat lamps to make this a more enjoyable outdoor experience. This is a huge contributing factor of why I'm give the event such a low rating.
In conclusion, I didn't have such a great experience due to its inaccurate promotional postings, which totally misled me, and the inactive heat lamps on a cold day. The Christmas Market was by far a much better event and I would gladly pay the entrance fee of $6 to attend it.
