My husband's family sings Umi's praises every time we talk about Pittsburgh and so we try to go every time we're in town. Last night's visit was my second and oh my god was it fantastic!
We had impeccable service, great guidance from our waiter, Larry, and probably one of the best dinners I've ever had. We decided to do the seven course omakase tasting and were very, very pleased. There was a nice flow to the whole thing and each dish blew us away. Especially notable were the fluke, the white tuna (I will request this for my last meal on earth, if possible. Seriously.) and an oven roasted black cod. All of the dishes were inventive and deceptively simple.
It was expensive, but totally worth it in my opinion. It would be hard to put together a filling dinner without spending a good amount of money, but I don't think Umi masquerades as a spot for cheap eats.
Overall, Umi lived up to our high expectations and we'll continue to make time to dine here every time we come to Pittsburgh!
