| - This was my very first time here, with a $20 off coupon for an order of $80 or more.
When you arrive, the door is crazy hard to open with their air vent system. And very cold inside as a result.
We had a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday, which was smart because it was packed. The older Asian gentleman who seemed to be a host was very curt and sat us in a half-booth half-table when we had wanted a full booth but luckily my guests were not picky about seating.
We were given drinks right away and placed an order for tempura bam, which took twenty minutes to arrive and we noticed other tables void of food like ours as well. They seem to be short-staffed for the weekend dinner rush, something for the owners to look into.
When it finally arrived, it was disheartening at best due to how small the portion suez is to the price. Being a la carte instead of AYCE, I expected much more bang for my buck. Add to that I ordered a less cooked Alaskan Box that other guests preferred the tempura bam over so sharing was difficult when we were so hungry and waited so long. The Alaskan Box (tobiko fish egg, salmon, rice in square cut w/o seaweed) was stunning to look at but quite bland, with the cucumber being too overwhelming for my taste.
Knowing this, we ordered four rolls: Shrimp Tempura, West Vegas, U-My, and the one with hamachi. I guess I did not order the right items because each one had something off and fulfilling about it.
I know Osaka is meant to be one of the more premium bistros but I was not too impressed. Perhaps if I have another coupon and a chance to order different things I will return. The main highlight was our server, very vivacious lady who took the time to explain menu items and the Japanese language behind them. Also as we left there was live piano, very rare these days unless you dine on the Strip.
