  • SYNDICATE MMA is everything you need in an MMA gym. My focus at Syndicate was Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so I'll focus on that, but I can say that the Muay Thai, MMA, and fitness classes were also heavily attended so I don't know any reason to doubt their quality. Syndicate BJJ is currently being taught by Alex "Capitao" Almeida, former (and should be current except for terrible judges) WSOF Lightweight Champion. Alex knows everything there is to know about BJJ and does an excellent job teaching it. He doesn't pull any punches, so it's work to keep up, but it's a friendly, helpful, supportive atmosphere from instructor on down so you don't feel so bad when you have to ask to see a sequence again. I cannot stress how pleasant everyone at the gym is, from training partners to instructors, it's just got a spectacular vibe for anyone to train. If you're feeling hesitant to train at a gym of this quality because of it's world-class reputation, don't. I'm an out of shape father of two and while it was one mother of a workout I never felt unwelcome. I'll never forget that my first day training my training partner said he was getting cramps from chemotherapy. Made me feel real stupid about hesitating to start training. You're never too old or too unhealthy to train BJJ apparently! Casey Milliken also occasionally fills in for Capitao when he's out training and he does a spectacular job as well. I can also speak to the kids program, which is taught by none other than the Legendary Roxanne Modafferi, who at this time is about to fight for the Invicta Championship. Not only is Roxanne a world class fighter, she's also spectacular with kids (and helpful to their parents too). Classes are taught at the kids level but are still excellent training. I am sadly leaving Syndicate as my good friend is starting his own BJJ school, but I still can't recommend Syndicate enough. Great people, great facility; if you want to stay in prime shape and learn to defend yourself, or even join the UFC you can do it here. BONUS: You will see real live professional fighters quite often. I saw Nate Diaz training here right before his fight, Mike Pyle and Tom Lawler are at Syndicate all the time (Lawlor trains the wrestling class I think), and a couple of times Forrest Griffin came in to Roll! I got to get my ass handed to me by the former UFC light heavyweight champion! (He was really nice and helpful about it too.)
